Tips for Exercise Newbies
So, you’ve finally decided that it’s time to get in shape, but, you don’t feel confident enough to let others see you working out in a gym or health club. So, what else can you do? You can work out at home. All it takes to create a home gym is a little bit of space (a spare room is ideal if you have one) and get some essential pieces of gear, and you’ll be ready to dive right in and start getting in shape.
Turn Off Your Television
There are all kinds of commercials on television advertising the newest and best gadget for losing weight and getting in shape. Most of the time, these gadgets are really just gimmicks, and few of them actually do what they are supposed to. Ignore those commercials and start exercising using average equipment that people have been using for years. Here are some of the things that you may want to furnish your home gym with so you will get the ultimate workouts that will get you into great shape:
Weight Lifting Gear – There are all kinds of things you can get, but unless you plan on getting a universal type of weight machine (which are actually really great because you can get a full workout), you really only need the following: small hand weights (get a variety, so you can increase weight as you gain strength and muscle tone), dumbbells, and barbells with various weights.
Machines – A lot of people are opting to have exercise bikes and treadmills in their homes, especially the newer ones that can be folded up and easily stored. Unless you really want all of the bells and whistles the new models have to offer, you can get the same workout benefits from older models. They may not look as great, but you can usually pick them up second hand for a really great price.
Yoga – This is the easiest type of workout area to set up. All you really need is a small amount of floor space, and a yoga mat, which you can usually find for less than $20. And, because you only need a mat, which is lightweight and portable, you can take it anywhere for a workout any time you want.
It doesn’t take much to start getting in shape, and, you don’t need to spend a lot of money. Decide what type of workouts you want to do, get the gear you need, and don’t bother with gimmicks. Once your home gym is all ready to go, you can start working on getting the body you’ve always wanted.
